Teenie's Tool Time - Front Porch

I
have to say that this was a Big B (Brian, my husband) and Teenie project. A little history: When we bought our ‘half
way built’ home, banks weren’t lending any money especially for construction. Finally
, we found a bank that would loan us money to finish our house, but with one
stipulation…only a 90 day loan. This
meant HURRY!! As a result, we didn’t get
to finish things as we would have liked to, so now we have many projects…I do
love projects! Our most recent endeavor
was to transform our front porch. I
started looking on the internet, driving around looking at houses and began
dreaming up an idea that I thought would work for our porch. Big B knows that when I say ‘I’ve been
thinking…’ this means we will be working on a home improvement project. He is so patient with all my concepts and
helps bring them to reality (sometimes he is not thrilled about it though, but
I don’t blame him. It’s a lot of work). So
off we go to buy our materials including cedar posts, a new front door, stain
etc. I have already found the door that I want at a liquidator building supply
(yes, a deal!) and Big B thought it was a good choice. We used several power tools to complete our porch
including a skill saw, jig saw and my personal favorite a nail gun. After the posts were put up and the front
door was hung, we began staining the cedar.
What a messy job! By the end of
it, we were covered in sticky redwood stain and sweat. After all the work then came the clean-up. I don’t like that part near as much, but
there was no one else to do it. Throwing
out all the scrap wood, putting away all the tools, wrapping up the extension
cords and then sweeping the work area (which was our driveway and
sidewalk). We were so tired, but when we
stepped back to look at the porch, it was worth all the hard labor that we put
into it. The best feeling in the world is being finished! We are definitely Do-it-yourselfers and want
to encourage you to jump in there and try something new. Our catch phrase is ‘we don’t know how to do
it, but we can ‘figure it out’! There is
something to be said for the feeling of doing it yourself! What is a home improvement project that you
would like to complete? Entry Before: Entry After:
