9 The Pharaoh’s daughter said to her [Moses’ mother] ‘Take this child away and nurse him for me and I will give you your wages.’ So the woman took the child and nursed him.

Moses’ mother, Jochebed, was willing to give up her son and put him into a basket and float him down a river because she knew that was best for him. She knew that if the Pharaoh’s daughter would find him he would not be killed. I love that she sent Moses’ sister, Miriam, to watch from the distance to see what would happen to him and report back to her. Miriam just ‘happened’ to be where the Pharaoh’s daughter was to offer her a nurse maiden, Jochebed, Moses’ mother! This awesome series of events was God ordained because He has a plan. We don’t always know (most of the time) what God is doing with our finite minds, but the One who is in control does. God’s will, God’s way and God’s timing…all three must line up. It may have been God’s will for Moses to be in the house of Pharaoh, but if Jochebed had not put Moses in the water at the right time, he would not have been rescued. If Jochebed had not put Moses in the basket and floated him down the river (the way), he would have been killed like the other male babies. What an incredible story of how God’s will, God’s way and God’s timing saved a male child that would one day be the leader to rescue the Isrealites from captivity!! It’s a God thing. On this Mother’s day, I am reminded that our children are not really our own. They are in this world for a purpose ….God’s purpose! Pray that God will guide you as you teach your children of His plan for their lives. We are here for a short time….to honor God in all things! I can’t imagine how hard that must have been to put Moses in that basket and push him down the river. Do you have the faith to let your children go into all the world? Allow God to give you peace and joy regarding your children. Being a mother is a privilege and a blessing…Thank God for both! Happy Mother’s Day!
