The Race
2 Tim 4:7
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept) the faith. (amplified)
July 4th brings many things to mind….parades, fireworks, family and cookouts, and patriotism. It is where we celebrate our freedom and independence. In Atlanta, GA, it also brings the Peachtree Road Race! This is the largest 10K in the world and the most prestigious. The race began in 1970, with 110 racers meeting at the old Sears building on Peachtree and East Paces Ferry. It now has 55,000 racers every year, including a wheelchair division, with 1000 or so volunteers, more than 500,000 recyclable paper cups and 65,000 bottles of water were used during this year's race. It brings many people to the sidelines to look for their favorite runner. People run the race for many reasons…to win (pretty obvious), to hit a personal goal, in memory of someone they love, good exercise and for the shear joy of it. The race has energy, excitement and vibrancy that can be felt by everyone there. People talk about it and share their story of how they did, the parts that were difficult, and the FINISH! The prize of the Peachtree Road Race T-shirt which is worn that day with pride, can be seen at many events around the Atlanta area on race day. The runners enjoy ‘showing’ that they ran the race!
Paul experienced many highs and lows in his walk with God, but how he ran the race was more important. He fought the good fight (worthy, honorable, and noble), he finished the race, and he kept (firmly held) the faith. How are we running the race of life? May we be found faithful of fighting the good fight, finishing the race, and holding firmly the faith in Jesus Christ! May God continue Blessing the USA!
